Park & Recreation Commission

Purpose, Scope, and Duties

The Park and Recreation Commission is an advisory body created to assist the City Council on matters regarding City parks and recreation related issues. The Commission also promotes intra-community and intra-governmental cooperation and communication on parks and recreation related issues.   

The scope and duties of the Park and Recreation Commission shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  1. To make recommendations to the City Council on matters pertaining to public recreation;
  2. To assist in the planning, development and review of recreational public parks, and public recreation, and in the improvement of these services and programs to meet the needs of the community;
  3. To participate in the development of recommendations for City Council considerations regarding annual budgets, capital projects and programs (e.g., capital improvements, projects, grants, and general fund programs that relate to public recreation facilities and programs);
  4. To provide a forum for the public to express their views related to public parks and recreation and other related issues;
  5. To promote interest, cooperation, and support among public and private organizations and agencies, and local residents for the City’s recreational facilities and programs;
  6. To communicate the City’s policies and functions regarding programs for parks, recreation, and services, and to encourage City residents to participate and utilize City parks, facilities, services, and recreational programs;
  7. To encourage cooperative programming between the City and other public and private organizations so that the efficiency and effectiveness of the services provided by the City may be enhanced; and
  8. To advocate and promote programs and services designed to meet the needs of all City residents.

Meeting Times

The Commission meets quarterly on the 4th Monday at 6 p.m.

Membership

The Park and Recreation Commission consists of five (5) members.
