Construction & Demolition Debris Recycling

Effective Jan. 1, 2011, California’s Green Building Standards Code (Title 24) (CALGreen) requires the diversion of at least 50 percent of the construction waste generated during most “new construction” projects (CALGreen Sections 4.408 and 5.408). CalGreen states that projects are required to recycle or reuse 50% of all construction or demolition debris and 75% of all concrete and asphalt generated from the project. Every three years the State of California adopts new and/or updated model codes. These subsequent amendments have expanded upon what types of construction are covered. Please see this table for more current information.

Please note that the City of Rio Vista requires a waste management plan. In addition, weight tickets must be submitted to the City to verify how much recyclable material was diverted. Final inspection cannot be completed until weight tickets are provided.
